Following the 2026 total solar eclipse, interest in the 2027 sailing surged and Holland America’s public inventory sold out. Because I reserved group space in advance, I still have a limited number of staterooms available at my group pricing.
On August 2, 2027, Oosterdam is scheduled to be in the Mediterranean’s path of totality for the total solar eclipse. The duration will depend on the ship’s position, and visibility will depend on weather conditions.
This 14-day round-trip cruise departs from Athens, Greece, and visits a mix of iconic Mediterranean ports before and after the eclipse, so you’ll have plenty of time to explore ashore in addition to the days at sea. Because we’ll be positioned specifically for optimal viewing, you won’t need to travel inland or fight crowds at a land-based viewing site — the eclipse comes right to you, from the ship’s open decks. With public cabins gone, booking through my group allotment is currently the most reliable way to still secure a stateroom on this sailing.

Make the most of your journey with an optional stay in Athens before our cruise departs on July 31, 2027. Join fellow travelers for sightseeing, a rooftop dinner, and an easy transfer to the ship.
Stay at the Athens Gate Hotel
Stay near the Acropolis, with rooftop views and several room categories, including rooms overlooking the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
For three nights, July 28–31, budget approximately $900–$1,200 total for two guests, depending on room category and availability. A local accommodation tax is payable separately at the hotel. Contact Jeannie for current rates or a different length of stay.

Explore Athens on an optional guided sightseeing tour beginning at 9:00 AM. Allow approximately 4–6 hours, including a meal. $110 per person.
Rooftop Group Dinner · Friday Evening, July 30
Get acquainted before we sail over an optional dinner at the Athens Gate Hotel’s rooftop restaurant, with views of the Acropolis. Guests pay for their own dinner.
Hotel-to-Ship Transfer · Saturday, July 31
Travel together from the Athens Gate Hotel to the cruise port. $12 per person. Airport-to-hotel transportation can also be arranged at an additional cost.
